Orphans and Vulnerable Care

  • Orphans and Vulnerable Care

Many of the poorest countries in the world face an unfortunate combination of disease, drought, poverty and a lack of critical resources. These circumstances have resulted in an ever increasing orphan population. The biggest culprits are a deadly combination of chronic poverty, unsuitable weather, bad harvest, high prevalence of HIV/AIDS, and other diseases  outbreaks of cholera and other diseases. Added to this there is also a growing number of orphans due to war and civil unrest globally.

If they are fortunate they are cared for by relatives who often are already under economic hardships. Otherwise these orphans are left to fend for themselves. It is not uncommon to find families with no parents, due to disease, abandonment, or the damages of war in which the oldest sibling is caring for the younger ones. Without parents, obtaining an education and health care, maintaining nutritious habits, and fulfilling basic needs is a struggle.
